How it all started...
Sovereign Grace Church began in 2006 when Pastor Chad Vegas and a small group of men felt called to plant a church in Bakersfield. Their vision was simple but profound: to be a church that is God-centered, Christ-exalting, Spirit-empowered, Bible-saturated, and missions-focused.
After months of prayer and planning, the first gatherings began in the fall of 2006, with Thursday evening services and a small but committed group. That December, over 150 people joined us for our first Sunday service at Hodel’s Restaurant. From there, the Lord continued to bless our young church with steady growth and a deepening commitment to His Word.
In the years that have followed, Sovereign Grace Church has become home to a few hundred regular attenders, united in our love for Christ and our mission to make Him known.

Where we are Headed
Sovereign Grace Church of Bakersfield remains steadfast in our mission to proclaim the gospel in our city and to support the spread of Christ’s name to the nations. We continue to joyfully preach and teach the truths of Christian theology rediscovered in the Protestant Reformation and written down in the Three Forms of Unity with conviction and joy, trusting God to grow His church for His glory. As we look to the future, we are prayerfully anticipating moving into our permanent church home at Heath Road and Stockdale Highway. We thank God for His faithfulness, and we look forward with joy and anticipation to all He will continue to do in and through Sovereign Grace Church.
